Interesting words

limpid — anything to do with limp/limpness? Not really, it means “clear”, as in transparent.

demur— a misspelling of demure? Nah, it means delay or postpone.

aestivate/estivate— summer equivalent of hibernate.

tussive— cough; antitussive— cough syrup.

runcible— spoon, fork and knife combined.

purgamentum init, exit purgamentum— rubbish in, rubbish out. —>>Hmm, Chan Ter Yue is so fond of using those Latin quotes, should sneak this onto his lecture notes. Bwahaha…

malapropism— humorous misuse of words.

catachresis— general misuse of words.

Ah-le-le

Haha, today Allele proclaimed Zheng Xian to be his role model in front of the class during civics. Mayhaps it be some jest involved, but I think it’ll make zx’s head a little bigger. =p

Hmm, been using some acronyms like “wtf” lately. Must be an influence from Kenny. I shall, nay, will endeavour to change it henceforth. It is rather disturbing to have changed my language structure within such a short time.

Already, I’m reverting from “yo” back to “hi”. Now, instead of saying wtf, I’ll just say what the hell, or what the fuck. Not that it is any less vulgar…

The Passion of the Christ

Lest I forget, let’s start with the Sakae Sushi buffet last Friday. Kenny, Belinda and I went to Westmall’s Sakae Sushi for their buffet. It was smashing, I love buffets. :P Three is a bit small in number, though, as we can’t play zong he mi ma. Anyway, this sushi buffet was one where the least amount of rice was discarded, either openly or by other sureptitious means. Belinda only discarded one block of rice!! Haha, I guess not wasting food is a virtue too.

I went to watch The Passion today. Ordinarily, I will not watch such genres of movies, but all the hoo-haas made perked my curiosity. The only logical conclusion is that the Singapore Censors Board has too naive a view of the youngsters here. I can safely say that a typical game has more gore and blood than this movie. Too violent? Oh, give me a break. The pseudo blood and scars are nothing compared to other more gory stuff that we are exposed to daily, innued to the point of ennui.

It was a powerful film, though. I have heard accounts of people crying over it, so I thought, “Okay, maybe I can have a good cry!”. Sadly, I went in and came out dry-eyed. Perhaps it is the fact that I am agnostic, but there are no scenes that moved me to tears. Christ died painfully, sure, but I still do not get why he wouldn’t perform some miracle in front of the masses to confirm his identity.

Anyway, to those who say the film is anti-semitic, I think that they are just playing the minority card. Throughout the movie, Jesus said several times “Forgive them, they know not what they do” or something to that effect. In contrast, the “blood be upon us and our decendents” bit was not even subtitled.

If Jesus is really the Son of Man, Son of the Living God, then I’ll worship him. But I don’t know if he is. I guess I’m just like that Pontius Pilate, not knowing the truth. Hmmm, perhaps some revelations will be nice. I seek the truth… Veritas.

After that, I just came straight home. Reached home at about 6.20 pm, and the rest are just some mundane stuff.

Take care, be nice. Haha.

Signing off,
Andrew
