Yup, finally got the Final Theory Test out of the way. It was touch and go, really, as I was unsure of 6 questions (answer more than 5 out of 50 wrongly, and you fail). But in the end, the “PASSED” sign was displayed, and I breathed a sigh of relief. =)
P.S I still don’t know where to position the bloody vehicle when turning right from a one-way street.

Pretty difficult, it seems, to find a French dictionary in Popular. Having ascertained the Popular in Heartland Mall has no french dictionaries at all to speak of, I travelled to Compassvale’s Popular. It turns out that they have 3-4 of Oxford minidictionaries for Spanish, Italian, and German, but *none* for French. Yes, they do have the bigger dictionary, but I want the smallest available for carrying ease.
I took a sample of the German dictionary to the customer service, and asked them to check all their branches for any copies available (with 50 branches in Singapore, I expected a positive return), but it turned out that none of them has it! There are a surfeit of German, Italian and Spanish dictionaries, but not a single French dictionary is to be found in any of their 50 stores. I wonder if that is because the demand for it is so low that Popular decided not to stock it, or stock only a few copies, or if the demand for it is so high that it has all been sold out?
Anyway, I decided to try one last time at Hougang Mall’s branch. This time, I still didn’t find the Oxford version (though they also had Oxford minidictionaries for other languages), but there is one last copy left for Collin’s French minidictionary. It costs 50 cents more, and I’d have preferred Oxford’s instead, but I snapped it up – I have had enough of travelling to and fro.

In some contest, I won a pair of tickets for the “Blades of Glory” movie screening on 16 May 07, 7pm (one day before the official screening). Unfortunately, nobody was free. So I thought, okay, I’ll go myself. Then came the bombshell of the first French test on 17 May. The thoughts on how it is the first test in two years, the first test in NUS, etc came rushing through, and on 16 May evening, I discovered that I have still not memorised everything yet! So I decided to forego it…
The next day, after the first lecture, Leon fished out this set of 2006 french test that his neighbour very kindly donated to him. It was a mosnter of a test, five pages long with comprehension, essays and the whole gamut thrown in. We were all like, omg, and spent the next free 6 hours studying for the quiz.
And when the quiz came, what was it? Nothing but a two-paged, flimsy thing… I don’t want to tempt fate by saying it is chicken feat, but it seriously fell short of what we were expecting. In hindsight, I should have just gone for the movie. Blah.
