Now that there is a brief hiatus after the psychology exam, I thought I’d get a kick out of seeing how many copies of my translations are roaming around the net. The only legitimate copies of my translation are at CMB, here and very occasionally jaychou forum. The methodology is simple : I pasted a line of my English translation with quotes around them into google and looked at the results returned.
Frankly, I didn’t expect much from this mp3 generation, and true enough, almost every single site just pasted the translations verbatim on their site as if they were the original translators, with no sources or credits given. I was a bit ambivalent at this point – happy because my work is floating around cyberspace, and a little upset because no one bothered to give credit where (I feel) it is due.
So I was delighted to find, at last, after exhaustive searches that one site did give the source! My happiness lasted until I scrolled down and saw what was written - “note: english translation seems to have glitches. i dont think its a very accurate translation. made the song too dramatic. my experience is less dramatic than what the english portrays.”
When I order a KFC meal, I change the drink to hot tea half the time. That’s what I did yesterday, but it was take-away. When I reached the park near my home, and after having sat down to drink the tea, what did I find but that the waitress did not put the tea bag into the styrofoam cup. So I ended up with a cup of lukewarm water and a tea bag, and the tea didn’t really diffuse well into the lukeworm water. I was quite bemused actually, this is the first time I’ve encountered it.
Btw, the KFC styrofoam cup is so much smaller than McDonald’s. C’mon, it is just hot water (or for some people, just coffee), what’s wrong with giving a bit more?
I went for the NDP 07 CR3 yesterday (the combined rehearsal was themed family day – probably for family members of the performers to attend?) It was almost like the real thing, except that there were no goodie bags (only a plastic bag with bottled water, crisps, drink, tissue, very thin plastic raincoat and bread.)
Marina Bay, a big floating stage for the performance.
There were no actual ministers present, so the MC added the word “simulated” after each announcement, and students dressed in white simulated the ministers. It was funny and lame, and no one bothered to stand up.
The helicopter hovered there while the national anthem was played. This time, everyone stood up.
The parade section. The 21 gun salute was really loud!
