While on my way home, I saw this sign at the corner after Fong Seng, the row of (well, only three) eateries near NUS.

No, there’s nothing “engrish” about this sign; the grammar is afterall correct. What makes it funny – to me at least – is the thinking behind those who put up the signs. C’mon! Do you think that if passerbys, on seeing this sign, were made aware that this is private property, they’d considerately refrain from littering, when even fines for littering on public property fail to temper their propensity for littering, spitting and the whole gamut of inconsiderateness?
The psychology behind this is so misguided, it surely qualifies as being funny.

I had dinner at Bishan Junction 8′s Crystal Jade to celebrate mum’s birthday. They had some voucher for every $50 spent on an UOB card, but it turned out to be a voucher for a choice of sidedish for high-tea.
Next, I spent one hour at Newton Mrt typing the report on “meh”. Meh.
Then I met with Sarah, Caroline, Wyatt and Morton, and proceeded to Newton Food Centre. I knew it was touristy and pricey, with occasional reports of touts, but one cannot imagine how bad it is until you try going there with four Caucasians. Every drink stall and food stall is trying to lure customers! They are all smiling, oily and obsequiously, and it made for a very unpleasant and pressurising environment.
In the end, we didn’t eat there, but went to Toa Payoh (the nearest suburb to Newton).
After wandering around the town centre for awhile, we had chilli crab and horfun at a coffeeshop. The chilli crab there cost $30/kg, while it went for $40/kg at Newton Circus. Is the latter touristy or what?

The Horfun was quite big for $8. The chilli crab posed quite a
challenge for those unused to it. ;)

Caroline was taking the first picture, so she didn’t appear in it!
